ISLAMABAD (Muslim Times) – A 30-member parliamentary committee has been formed to investigate allegations that the July 25 general elections were rigged, a notification said Monday.The committee – which has equal representation of government and opposition members – include Azam Swati, Farogh Naseem, Barrister Saif, Khushbakht Shujaat, Nauman Wazir, Raza Rabbani, Javed Abbasi, Rehman Malik, Usman Kakkar, and Senator Kalsoom Perveen.
Members belonging to the People’s Party (PPP) include Syed Khursheed Shah, Naveed Qamar and Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, whereas Ahsan Iqbal, Rana Sanaullah, Rana Tanveer and Murtaza Javed Abbasi will represent the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) party.
Sardar Akhtar Mengal and JUI’s Maulana Abdul Wasi have also been made part of the committee. The government members include Pervez Khattak, Shireen Mazari, Shafqat Mahmood, Ali Muhammad Khan and Amir Dogar.
The government has nominated Khattak to head the committee. A final decision will be taken at the first session where terms of reference (TORs) would also be decided.
