Trump adviser ‘collaborating, conspiring’ with Russia, FBI says

(News Desk) – Former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page has denied findings by the FBI about his collusion with Russia.

Page appeared on CNN Sunday to defend himself against the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s claim that he “has been collaborating with and conspiring with the Russian government.”

On Saturday, the FBI released a redacted version of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) warrant application, revealing that he was the subject of “targeted recruitment” by Russia during the 2016 election that yielded President Trump.

This is the first time a FISA application has been made public since the law was passed in 1978.

The 412 pages, released upon request by The New York Times and some advocacy groups, warned that “perhaps other individuals associated with” the Trump campaign were also engaged in coordination with Moscow to allegedly interfere with the presidential election.

The release also noted Page’s “established relationships” with Russians.

“This is really nothing and just an attempt to distract from the real crimes that are shown in this misleading document,” said the former Trump campaign adviser.

In February, House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes claimed that the FBI was biased in wiretapping Page.

Florida Republican Senator Marco Rubio, a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, has also thrown his support behind the FBI.

“I don’t think they did anything wrong. I think they went to the court, they got the judges to approve it, they laid out all the information, and there was a lot of reasons unrelated to the dossier for why they wanted to look at Carter Page,” he said.

Ever since Trump was inaugurated in January 2017, the US intelligence community has overwhelmingly maintained that Moscow sought to meddle in the 2016 election.
