EU-Japan trade summit postponed after deadly floods

Muslim Times(Web Desk) – A Brussels summit between leaders of the European Union and Japan scheduled for Wednesday to rubber-stamp a trade deal will be postponed and relocated to Tokyo after deadly floods in the country’s west, chief spokesperson for the Commission Margaritis Schinas said on Monday, July 9.

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe cancelled commitments overseas to deal with Japan’s worst flood disaster since 1983, killing more than 100 people and forcing several million from their homes.

Schinas added that the President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker promised Prime Minister Abe the EU’s readiness to support Japanese authorities in any way deemed necessary.
