(Web Desk) – The UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office announced that Michael Aron has been appointed as the new ambassador of the UN to Yemen.
Commenting on the appointment of Aron as the UK new envoy to Yemen, UK Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson on Friday said, “The UK is working tirelessly to support the people of Yemen through these difficult times in their history. We are clear that a political solution to the conflict and an end to the humanitarian suffering is the only way forward if we are to see the stable and prosperous future that the people of Yemen deserve,” reported.
Johnson added,” Michael has extensive experience serving the UK as ambassador, most recently to Sudan and Libya. I look forward to working together with him to help establish a peaceful and stable future for Yemen.”
Aron said, “I am honored to be the new British Ambassador to Yemen. … I look forward to working with Yemenis, regional and international partners and all parties to the conflict, in support of a peaceful, stable and secure Yemen.”
Aron has already been British ambassador to Libya, Iraq and Kuwait.
The UK’s previous ambassador to Yemen Simon Shercliff has been appointed Director of National Security at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
Yemen has been under severe attacks on the part of Saudi Arabia and its allies, with the support of the US, since March 2015. The invaders tried to bring the resigned Yemeni president Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi to power. The war has had no results except destruction of the poverty-torn Yemen and death and displacement of its people.
