Memogate case: SC seeks mechanism to bring Haqqani back

ISLAMABAD (Muslim Times) – While dismissing review petitions of Hussain Haqqani in Memogate case, country’s top court has on Thursday summoned secretaries interior and foreign affairs and Director General Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to contemplate legal ways to bring self-exiled ex-ambassador to U.S. back to the country.

The Supreme Court (SC) has directed to devise mechanism within one week in the aforementioned regard.

During the hearing Advocate on Record (AOR) Chaudhry Akhtar and Asma Jahangir appeared before three-member bench and stated that they have been directed by Haqqani not to plead his case, therefore, they (read Akhtar and Asma) are withdrawing Wakalatnaama.

The apex court overtly dismissed allegations of any political consideration over fixing the Haqqani matter.

The hearing was adjourned for one week.
