CJP takes suo motu action to bring back money of Pakistanis kept abroad

ISLAMABAD ( Muslim Times) – Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Mian Saqib Nisar on Thursday called suo motu action against the money kept by Pakistanis outside the country in a bid to bring back the assets.

CJP sought record of the foreign accounts and assets of Pakistanis from the State Bank of Pakistan, (SBP), Federal Bureau of Revenue (FBR), Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) and all intelligence agencies.

He also ordered the Ministry of Interior, SBP, FBR and Ministry of Foreign Affairs to exchange information for this purpose.

The intelligence agencies approached for this purpose include Intelligence Bureau (IB), Military Intelligence (MI) and Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). These intelligence agencies will provide report on the foreign accounts and assets held by Pakistanis.

The top judge declared that the country faced economic instability due to transference of money outside the country. He shed light on the possibility that the money may have been earned and transferred through illegal means.

“Illegal wealth stored in foreign banks is national assets. It has to be brought back,” he stated.
