Largest solar power plant in refugee camp unveiled in Jordan

The largest solar power plant located inside a refugee camp was unveiled on Monday in the Zaatari refugee camp, in northern Jordan.

The 12.9-megawatt plant is made up of 40,000 solar panels and is expected to vastly improve the lives of camp residents, providing them with 14 hours of electricity per day rather than eight.

The opening ceremony was held in a large white tent near the power plant, in the presence of Jordanian Energy Minister Saleh Kharabsheh, German Ambassador to Amman Berjita Seifker-April, officials of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and representatives of humanitarian organisations operating inside the camp.
