LAHORE – Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Hanif Abbasi has on Thursday claimed that the alteration in Khatm-i-Naboowat oath is a conspiracy against the government, and the responsible person should be brought in front of people.
Hanif Abbasi said while mentioning National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq that it is not enough to just admit that this was a clerical error, as this mistake is intolerable and the treachery must be disclosed.
Protest in Lahore was also raised by students against the amendment. Earlier, Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif demanded to expel the person from cabinet who changed the clause.
On the other hand, National Assembly has approved to reinstate the Khatm-i-Naboowat clause in Elections Act 2017 in its original form today after facing a lot of criticism.
It is worth mentioning here that the Khatm-i-Naboowat oath was converted into a declaration, and the words “I solemnly swear” had been replaced with “I believe”. Furthermore, the clause relating to Khatm-i-Naboowat had not been made applicable to non-Muslim candidates.
