LAHORE (Muslim Times) – Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday accepted the petition against medicine price hike for hearing.
The hearing of the case was conducted by Justice Shujat Ali Khan during which the petitioner’s lawyer Advocate Ishtiaq Chaudhary adopted the stance that pharmaceutical companies have increased the drug prices of various fatal diseases by themselves including cancer, hepatitis without any set formula.
The plea stated that there is no procedure for determining drug prices by government whereas a number of patients are unable to buy such expensive medicines.
The petitioner has requested the court to direct the government to carry out effective legislation to bring the pharmaceutical companies under the law regarding the determination of medicine prices.
The plea also requires legal action against pharmaceutical companies who have augmented the prices themselves.
The court while reviewing the petition has summoned reply from federal and provincial government in 15 days.
