The US officials have admitted that one of its laboratories may have inadvertently sent live anthrax to Britain back in 2007.
The Pentagon revealed that an unnamed laboratory in Britain received the samples, which can be used as biological weapon.
A statement from the UK Health and Safety Executivesaid “The company has informed us it destroyed samples shortly after testing.”
It said “If anyone would have been exposed in 2007, symptoms would have presented shortly after. No such reports of ill health were apparent in the workforce. On this basis we do not believe there is any continuing health risk to staff or to the public.”
It has come to light that 68 labs have been involved in the anthrax scare from the US.
19 US states and four foreign countries, including Canada, South Korea and Australia received Anthrax samples.
The revelation has triggered sharp criticism from bio-safety experts who call for improved precautions.
